Marketplace Morning Report Host

Steve Chiotakis

It all started at a small radio station in Steve's head. The voices served as different disc jockeys. Steve's station played rock 'n roll, sketch comedy and newsmaker interviews.

He was sort of David Frost meets John Belushi meets Cameron Crowe. He was quite accomplished --- literally, a legend in his own mind.

Presidents and Prime Ministers knew an appearance on Steve's show would make or break their political careers. Movie stars gravitated to this land of make believe because Steve made them feel important and smoked those long cigarettes with the plastic tip. Among those profiled: a frustrated sibling, angered neighbors, irritated people from the apartment complex pool. Chess pieces. Fruit.

In reality, Steve was bitten by radio in the late 1980's, right after high school. He started at a country station in Birmingham, Alabama, and progressed through different places in the state, winding up in public radio at WBHM. He's been news anchor, reporter and News Director at a variety of outlets, picking up dozens of national, regional and statewide awards along the way. The Public Radio News Directors, Incorporated has honored Steve more than half a dozen times with awards for feature reporting, writing and call-in show. In 2001, he won a prestigious national Edward R. Murrow Award for writing.

Over the course of his career, his work has been featured on CBS Radio, NBC, CBC, the BBC, NPR and, of course, Marketplace.

A proud alumnus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (BA, Communication Studies), he's enjoying life in Southern California and working to make the Marketplace Morning Report the best business update your public radio station can put on-the-air.

And most of all, he thanks you for your support.
