Sarah Gardner
Sarah Gardner's radio career started in 1984 at a station located above a tavern in Lowell, Mass. She hasn't put down her microphone since. After reporting stints in Lawrence, Mass., and Concord, N.H., she moved west to Los Angeles, just as Marketplace's creators were getting their new show on the air. Gardner began reporting for the program as a freelancer when the show was still in its infancy, and has been a familiar voice to Marketplace listeners for nearly 14 years. She has worked as business editor and substitute host and is currently a reporter for the Sustainability Desk.
Gardner's awards include The Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism, The DuPont Columbia Award, and a Peabody. She received a B.A. in religion at Carleton College and an M.S. in journalism at Columbia University.

Remember how back in the day, the mob would extend debt to those who couldn't get it? Remember? What happens if that person couldn't pay up? Good luck, Fannie and Freddie! . . . "
