Marketplace

Steve Tripoli

Lead Correspondent, Marketplace Entrepreneurship Desk, Boston

Steve Tripoli

Steve Tripoli has worked in lots of places and covered lots of subjects. But he says Marketplace and the economic beat during the birth of a new world economy rank at the top.

Steve's public radio career has taken him through NPR in Washington, where he was a senior editor, his native Boston's WBUR, and an earlier stint at Marketplace that led to this one. He's also been a print journalist for the Los Angeles Times and Baltimore Sun, and a "foreign expert" adviser in Beijing to China Daily, China's official English-language newspaper.

He does reserve time and mental space for non-news passions: vegetable gardening, competitive softball (senior division) and cooking (emphasis on Italian) among them. And he loves technology — especially the kind that allows his Marketplace work to originate from a home studio (pictured) outside Boston.

But in the end Steve says his job carries rewards even a business reporter can't put a price on. "A listener came up to me recently and introduced herself, then said she had just one thing to say: 'Thanks for helping us to understand.' It really doesn't get any better than that."
