"Day in the Work Life": School Principal

Dr. Andy Johnsen

On this week's "A Day in the Work Life" — our regular look at how folks trade time for money — we get sent to the principals office.

Dr. Andy Johnsen is co-principal at Santa Monica Boulevard Community Charter School in Hollywood. "I'm always careful to say 'Hollywood,'" says Johnsen. "Because when people hear 'Santa Monica' they think palm trees and seagulls." In fact, the school is located in a very needy area. "All of our kids qualify for 'free and reduced' lunch, which means they are qualified as kids from poverty homes," says Johnsen. That doesn't keep him from loving the job.
