The Immigration Dollar

in downtown L.A., half a million people...

As immigration reform plays out in Congress, it got us wondering: How does illegal immigration play out in our economy? Marketplace's Lisa Napoli reports.

Last weekend, just blocks from our studios here in downtown L.A., half a million people took to the streets. They came, like hundreds of thousands of others across the country, to protest Congressional plans for immigration reform. The subject was the talk of Capitol Hill and the media all week. No one really knows for sure, but best guesses are there are 12 million undocumented workers in the United States right now -- as many people as live in the state of Ohio. But if you're not an immigrant, how would immigration reform affect you? Lisa Napoli looked into it. (Photo: Justin Sullivan (c) Getty Images)
