Back in the olden days, about 15-20 years ago, when 401(k) plans were being touted as the thinking person's way to build an additional nestegg for retirement, someone forgot to tell all of us that it's GAMBLING. Maybe we should have known better, but with DB pensions being sliced, diced and frozen, those of us who knew we probably couldn't make it on Social Security alone looked to the 401(k) solution as a God-send. I should have just gone to Vegas. Even with those odds, I'd probably be ahead of where I am now.
