  • It's over. Just as the sex discrimination suit against Morgan Stanley was set to get underway in earnest on this July 12th, the investment bank cried uncle. The deal is for $54 million - plus a promise to shape things up.
  • Advanced Micro Devices. Texas Instruments. Applied Materials. Intel. These companies were among the most actively traded today. And why? It has more than a little to do with a major investment bank revising its recommendation on the global semiconductor business - including a downgrade for the world's largest chipmaker.
  • It's a noun! It's a verb! It's listed on the Nasdaq!...or it will be soon. Today word that Google has applied to list its stock on the tech-heavy Nasdaq, once Google goes public.
  • Today the Agriculture Secretary announced a plan to get rid of Clinton-era regulations against logging in national forests. Under the proposal to be published in the federal register this week, millions of acres would be opened up to logging -- unless state governors petition the federal government to block the construction of roads needed for logging operations.

    As the Enron CFO's wife, Lea Fastow enters prison today, another inquiry has opened into the failed energy giant. Newly revealed documents show that Enron made significant contributions to a campaign to redistrict Texas congressional seats orchestrated by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay – possibly against Texas campaign laws. Despite the commercial success of Fahrenheit 911, even the director of this new movie doubts it will get a big theatrical release.

    "Do I have to go to the Convention? It's in Boston..."
    The Democratic National Convention is just two weeks away. We read today that Boston city officials are denying requests from Boston bar and nightclub owners to keep the taps flowing past their typical 2:00 A.M. curfew. Looks like the 5000 delegates and some 30,000 journalists, pundits, foreign dignitaries, and other hangers-on expected to flood into town will be getting to bed relatively early. That is, if they can find a bed.
