Tis the season for travel

A record number of travelers will take to the skies over the next few weeks. Airlines are slashing their fares and amenities to compete for a piece of the pie. Is this the ghost of the airline industry's future? Stacey Vanek Smith reports. Also, commentator Rudy Maxa takes apart a US Airways plan to give employees perks for getting to work and being on time over the holiday season.

Service, with an accent ...

Maneuvering through America's melting pot often means leaping language barriers. The booming immigrant population is full of newcomers who don't speak much English. When they're waiting tables and driving cabs that can mean winding up with the wrong order or in the wrong place. It's a customer service problem that's getting some employers in hot water. Washington reporter Gretchen Cook has more.

From Boston: Over 6000 law enforcement agencies worldwide use Tasers - guns that deliver an electric shock to incapacitate. They're touted as being a safe alternative to real weapons. But Amnesty International questions whether that claim is really on target.

From Los Angeles: Your cable TV bill might be getting bigger. Comcast is raising its rates nearly six percent next year - despite stiff competition from satellite TV.

From Washington: Tom Ridge is leaving his post as the country's first-ever Secretary of Homeland Security.

From Tucson: A federal judge in Tucson has placed a temporary restraining order against enforcement of a ballot measure passed by Arizonans last month.

From Miami: Today is "World AIDS Day," and Brazil is taking advantage of that by threatening to break patents on some foreign AIDS drugs.

From Los Angeles: France is doing less of it, and America's doing more. We're talking wine drinking, of course.

From Los Angeles: In 1999, Mark Cuban sold a company he founded to Yahoo. He took home $2 billion in cash and stock. Soon after the sale, he publicly ridiculed and sold all his dot-com shares, including Yahoo.

From London: Earlier in the week, there was optimism in Ukraine over resolving the presidential stand off there. But today, talks between the two political camps have broken down.

From Miami: The battle is on over United Airline's attempt to cut pensions for its 62,000 employees.
