Barry Diller is selling out — his 5% stake in Vivendi Universal, in the form of his Interactive Corp. And NBC is buiing. The $3.5 billion dollar deal will give NBC 100-percent ownership of Vivendi, which it bought last year.

European Union to Italy: Get your act together. The boot-shaped nation has been ordered to bootstrap its finances to bring its deficit under the 3% percent E.U. limit. Megan Williams has the story from Rome.

Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee — except perhaps the people who work at bakery factories that are about to get shut down. The company's chief executive says she'll spend about $1 billion to shut down more of Sara Lee's bakeries and to update computer systems in others. Last quarter, Sara Lee's profits were up 20 percent.

Kirk Kerkorian's got his hands on another 19-million shares of General Motors; he now owns 7.2% of General Motors. GM's been in the news — and good graces of Wall Street — for it's announcement of massive layoffs and factory closings. Marketplace's Business Editor Cheryl Glaser reports.
